Cherry ‘Fish’ Spanking Paddle. Or, when Paddle met Hairbrush! Cherry is a light, yet strong and durable species. Arguably one of the most attractive of the lighter coloured species, with a beautiful grain. evocative of Strict Governesses and times past, the grain was the inspiration for this elegant and unusually shaped piece. The board was sitting in my timber rack and I couldn’t split it in half to create two standard paddles as there was a knot in the centre. Equally, I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of it as it had a beautiful grain pattern. So, instead I chose to let the swirl of the grain dictate the shape of a unique paddle, which ended up looking rather fish-like. The finish is perfectly smooth, but it does incorporate the edge of the knot to one side, sanded smooth, another example of perfect imperfection!
The length, including handle, is approximately 36cm, the width approximately 9cm and the thickness around 2cm. All sizes are approximate as it is hand cut and hand finished. The paddle is finished with several coats of a food-safe mineral oil. The paddle you receive will be the one you see in the picture.
To care for your paddle, just wipe down with an antiseptic wipe and allow to air dry. An occasional application of food safe oil, wiped on with a cloth or paper towel, will ensure the finish is maintained.
