Description
Maple junior reformatory paddle. This design is part of my ‘reformatory’ range. Initially this range will consist of ‘junior’ and ‘senior’ lengths, in either Maple or Walnut. The paddles are drilled, each hole being finished with a neat chamfered edge. The holes serve several purposes. Visually they are stunning, they look truly intimidating. In use there are benefits. The holes reduce air resistance during the swing, creating a harder impact. They also reduce the cushion of air between paddle and skin on impact. Finally, the reduced surface area means the impact is more concentrated on the skin. All this adds up to a paddle which will retain all of the ‘thud’ but will have a much greater degree of ‘sting’.
Maple as a species is of a lighter weight, strong and durable. The timber tends to be cream in colour, with attractive brown graining, sometimes highly figured.
This is based on my standard shaped spanking paddle, only drilled out on the blade. I make and stock these on a regular basis. This means the item you receive will vary from the one in the picture in respect of grain and shade.
The length of the Maple junior reformatory paddle, including handle, is approximately 36cm, the width approximately 6cm and the thickness around 2cm. All sizes are approximate as they are hand cut and hand finished. To care for your implement, just wipe down with an antiseptic wipe and allow to air dry. An occasional application of food safe oil, wiped on with a cloth or paper towel, will ensure the finish is maintained.
