About

Punk music, when it began was a rebellion against, and an antidote to, boring, self-indulgent prog rock and meaningless, messageless disco. It was hailed as a new phenomena but in truth it was simply a return to the rebellious, raucous three minute single, a pure, pared down, modern take on good old fashioned rock and roll! Carved kink is also a rebellion. A rebellion against, and an antidote to, faceless mass production, noisy power tools in workshops and that dull misery that comes with everything being the same. Carved Kink is about vintage hand tools, which have lived and worked in the hands of real craftsmen for decades, its about old fashioned hand worked techniques, its about responsibly sourced hardwoods, its about individuality, even in the standard ranges, where the product style is simple, but never exactly the same, never mass-produced. The art ranges will be wild and unusual. Its about creating kinky toys from a place of understanding and experience.

A carpenter and joiner for over thirty years, I have worked in all areas of the trade. I am now in the happy position of being able to pick and choose my work. I work from my own well equipped workshop. I make what I like and enjoy. I make what I want, the way I want to. I recognise that this makes me very fortunate, that I can do work which is fulfilling and joyous, and ultimately my job feels like a pleasure, not a chore.

Timber is a natural product and as such will vary from piece to piece, grain and colour will never be quite the same. I chose to work mainly in Walnut, Cherry, Maple, Ash, Beech and Tulipwood. I use these species because I love the way they respond to my tools and the techniques I employ. I also offer items in Oak, Teak and Purpleheart. These species are harder to work with, but Oak, and especially Teak, can be breathtakingly pretty, and Purpleheart, for all the effort required to finish it, is such an outstandingly beautiful colour, also it is dense, like Teak, and the resulting impact toys are punishing in the extreme!

I refuse to try and make everything exactly the same. I simply strive to make everything the best it can be.

Put simply, I strive to achieve “perfect imperfection”.
